Pro-cess – a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end.
Starting a new process for your business is an exciting and essential step towards achieving efficiency, productivity, and growth. Whether you're introducing a new project management system, hiring new staff or onboarding clients, a well thought out and implemented process will make a significant difference.
Step 1: Identify the Objective
Firstly, consider what you want to achieve.
What problem are you trying to solve?
What goals do you want to accomplish?
Step 2: Gather Information
Make a list of everything that needs to be done to achieve the objective, speaking to all individuals that need to be involved. Consider what is already in place and needs to be updated and what software or programme you would like to use.
Step 3: Design the Process
Use a flowchart, diagram or design a form to sequence the activities. A very simple example for hiring a member of staff might be:

Step 4: Implement the Process
Sounds obvious eh? There is no point in spending the time creating a process and then not implementing it but we've all seen this happen haven't we! You're short on time so it won't hurt to miss that step out etc. This can lead to a disjointed process which is, at best, confusing and can often appear unprofessional.
Step 5: Monitor, Evaluate and Seek Feedback
Continuously monitor the process's performance and ask those involved for their feedback. A quick survey to a new client on the onboarding process or to a new member of staff on the induction process can give you an insight to where you need to make improvements.
By following these steps, you can create a well-structured and efficient process for any part of your business.
